HDCD is a new development used in the mastering of CDís which has been developed by Pacific Microsonics in San Francisco. HDCD stands for High Definition Compatible Digital and is a method of ìprocessingî the music-signal so that the existing 16-bit CD format ìsoundsî better than ìnormalî. To describe this process is unfortunately not possible in the space available, but it can be summarised as follows: An HDCD processed CD sounds better in all CD-players and even better in a CD-player with an inbuilt HDCD-decoder -there are upwards of 30 models on the market, usually in the higher price ranges at the moment, but future developments should make more models available at lower prices. One of the most positive features of the system is that, as the expression indicates, it is completely compatible - it functions in all existing CDplayers! "A sampler disc from Opus 3 is always an event, but this one is extra special. First, it marks 20-years since the founding of this wonderful label in Sweden. Second, founder Jan-Eric Persson has made the leap to HDCD. The result is Opus 3ís best sound yet, and in this judgement I am not excluding its vinyl discs. All of the 14 selections sound beautiful, lovingly recorded with true Blumlein stereo pair, the dynamics and detail enhanced by the HDCD process. Opus 3ís third decade promises to be even better than the first two" (Ultra High Fidelity Magazine) "The best music and HiFi CD in Sweden 1996" (HiFi & Musik) |
